How to Join the Immigration Google Group
Welcome to the GUM Immigration Google Group, a private site for interested ecclesial partners to post and share reflections and resources about immigration and the Church. Already Set Up? Enter Here
If you are new, read on…
What do I have to do now?
To log in to the site to read and share postings, you will need to create a “Google account” using an email address (You do NOT have to create a Gmail address to join a Google Group).
How do I create a Google account?
To create a Google account, just visit the account-creation page, enter your current email address, and choose a password. Once you’ve finished registering, you’ll receive a verification email. Click the link in that email to complete the verification process.
Why is GUM Immigration a private group?
The GUM Immigration group is a private group to facilitate resource sharing and dialogue among trusted persons sharing common concerns. The content of this group will not be publicly available. Occasionally we may make some content available to the public on the gum.org web site or elsewhere, but GUM with consent of the writers will publish it.
If I didn't attend the convening, how do I join the GUM Immigration group?
Once you have a Google account you can click here to apply to the GUM Immigration Group.
After you apply to the group, an email will be sent to GUM and a staff member will approve you. You should start receiving emails within a few days. If you have problems, please send an email to GUM and we will check on your request.
Can other people see my email address?
Only other members of the group can view you email address. Non-members can not see your email address.
What components does the Google Group include on the site?
The group provides three main sections for the members.
The primary section is the Discussions section. This is a list of topics that have been started by members of the group. Other members can reply to these topics. The Discussions can be searched to see if a topic has be discussed before. Members can also receive each topic and reply as an email.
The second section is the Files section. This is a list of files that members have uploaded to the groups for other members to download, view, and use.
The third section is the Pages section. Think of this as a list of shared documents. Any member can start a new page. That page can then be edited by the same member or other members and can be seen by all the members of the group. This could be used for collaborating on text for articles or other pieces of writing.
Can I send email to add a topic to the Discussions?
Yes. If you send an email to gum-immigration@googlegroups.com the email will be sent to all the members and will be added to the Discussion section.
Can I attach a file to a Discussion?
Yes. If you attach a file to a Discussion item it will be available for all the members of the group.
