Faith-based Networking
Because concern for justice and the plight of human suffering draws people from most all religious faiths and traditions, the Church often and appropriately finds herself at the inter-faith table. Whether the concern is about affordable housing, earthquake preparedness or the treatment of immigrants, much is gained through the sharing of knowledge and insight among diverse communities and beliefs. And there is room for such communities to work side-by-side in taking moral stands or promoting positive societal change in ways that honor God and His purposes.
FAITHS Program of the San Francisco Foundation (SFF)
GUM has enjoyed a long-time relationship with SFF through FAITHS, the relatively uncommon faith-based arm of a large, secular community foundation. Through FAITHS, GUM has received valuable technical assistance, and has made connections leading to various collaborative efforts.
Inter-faith Coalition for Immigrant Rights (ICIR)
Through participation in the ICIR, GUM has been better equipped to understand the current and ongoing immigration crisis, learn of its roots in history, and to explore ways for the Church to embody, and join others in advocating for just and humane treatment of immigrant families.

Last Spring’s Health Day at Willie Brown College Preparatory Academy was our last. The school’s closure at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year marked the end of our church’s first exploration into neighborhood ministry. As I reflected on our six-year partnership with the Wellness Center at Willie Brown, I began to see how it had formed our view of partnership."
