Family Activities
Particularly among families with parents who must work multiple jobs to make ends meet, opportunities for young and old to simply recreate and enjoy each other are far and few. The fostering of healthy relationships within immigrant families are further complicated by the significant gap between the culture of origin and that of San Francisco youth. The inter-generational and cross-cultural activities of Christian communities can provide important venues to help bridge the gap.
Kaleo Family Outings
Through the Kaleo Friday night adult outreach ministry, members of Grace Fellowship Community Church organize weekend outings for whole families to enjoy together, for example, excursions to local points-of-interest like Fisherman’s Wharf, Angel Island, or berry-picking farms in nearby Watsonville. Family Picnics & Field Trips
As a way to further nurture relationship between neighborhood and church families as a follow-up to Grace Fellowship Community Church’s summer camp called City Kids God’s Kids, GUM organizes a picnic to re-unite all of the participants, young and old. Families are also invited to participate in Urban Adventures field trips throughout the summer. See the Photos
